Web Clipper Privacy
Last updated: June 2026
This policy applies to the PdfDocShift Web Clipper browser extension for Chrome and Edge. It explains exactly what the extension does and does not do with your data. The extension is private by design: everything happens locally in your browser.
In short: The Web Clipper collects no data. It does not transmit, store on any server, or sell any personal data or page content. All screen capture, image stitching and PDF/JPEG generation happen locally on your device.
1. What the Extension Does
When you click the extension and choose to clip a page, it captures an image of the current tab — the visible area, the full page (scrolled and stitched), or a region you select — and saves it to your device as a PDF or JPEG. That is its single purpose.
2. Data We Collect
None. The extension does not collect, transmit, store on any server, or sell any personal data or page content.
- All screen capture, image stitching, cropping and PDF generation happen locally in your browser. The page content never leaves your computer.
- The only thing saved is the file you choose to download, written to your normal Downloads folder.
- The extension reads only the page you actively choose to clip. It does not read other pages, track your browsing history, inject advertising, or build a profile of you.
3. Your Local Settings
Your last-used preferences — capture mode (full page, visible area, or select area), output format (PDF or JPEG), and image quality — are saved locally via chrome.storage.local so the popup remembers your choice. This information stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
4. Permissions and Why They're Needed
- activeTab: Capture only the tab you're viewing, and only when you click the icon or press the shortcut.
- scripting: Inject the helper used for full-page scrolling and area selection on the active tab.
- downloads: Save the resulting PDF or JPEG to your device.
- storage: Remember your last-used settings locally.
The extension requests no broad host permissions and runs no remote code — the PDF library is bundled inside the extension package.
5. No Remote Code, No Third Parties
The extension does not download or execute any code from external servers, and it does not share data with any third party. Unlike the PdfDocShift website, the Web Clipper performs no server-side processing whatsoever.
6. Links to pdfdocshift.com
The popup contains links to pdfdocshift.com. Opening those links is the same as visiting any website; that visit is governed by the PdfDocShift website Privacy Policy, not by this extension policy.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
